It took almost a year of fundraising but the NYBA 12UAAA made it to Cooperstown for their annual week of baseball.

Coach Mike Lambert encapsultated the entire week in the post that he wrote on Instgram.

North York Baseball congratulates all of the players and their parents for providing this wonderful week of baseball!

From Coach Mike…

WOW!
I have so much to say, but don’t know quite what to say at the same time.

The 12u North York Blues team went down to Cooperstown, NY this week.  I didn’t know what to expect from us, our competition, or the experience, but I definitely had goals in mind for myself and the team (In order):

    • Don’t lose any children
    • Have fun and make friends
    • Build team chemistry
    • Be the best mentor/role model I can be
    • Learn about baseball
    • Compete to the best of our abilities (try to get a win in the USA)

I couldn’t be more proud of how the boys handled themselves.  I think it’s easy as a coach to get caught up in wins and losses, but at the end of the day it’s just kids playing a kids game.

The most impact that we will have on most players lives are outside of the sport. The good habits we teach. The respect for the game, but more importantly for one another. The responsibilities we put upon them. THAT’S what truly matters at the end of the day.

Going into it, I would have said that if we got one win this week I would have been happy. 2 would have made me ecstatic. Instead the boys went out and ended with 3 wins. That’s something to be celebrated and be proud of.

There are 2 things that I hope my players take away from this week:

    • Baseball and life have a lot of similarities. No matter what you do, you will make mistakes at some point. It’s not the mistake that defines you, but how you react to it will. Are you going to give up and feel sorry for yourself? Or are you going to dust yourself off, fix the mistake, and get better because of it?
    • Believe in one another.  Believe in yourself. If you don’t, then who will?

Thank you to all the parents of these amazing kids. Thank you to my fellow coaches, GT and Victor. Shoutout to the team manager, Neil for making this whole thing possible. Lastly, shoutout to those little humans that help inspire me to be the best version of myself everyday.

I still don’t think that’s enough to explain how impactful this week was on my life personally.

So maybe the best way to describe this week is just…
WOW
