10USelect Head Coach Eric Fung shared his team’s TBA story…

Our 10U Select Team finished third only behind the two 11U teams at the TBAs during the August 12-14 tournament weekend.

Congratulations to our boys!

This is many of our boys’ first year playing beyond house league.  We saw significant improvements in everyone compared to the beginning of the season. Towards the end of the season, our boys proved that they can play very competitive baseball!

We faced Leaside 11U during the first round of the TBAs. This team easily beat us during the regular season, but not this time. We were leading 4-3 going into the bottom half of the final inning, but lost a heartbreaker after giving up 2 runs to end the game. We knew it was going to be difficult playing against an older group who have been together longer, but the boys battled hard and came so close to getting a big win.

In the next round, we played against a very strong hitting Leaside 10U team. It was a nail-biting game to watch. We had strong pitchers going, but Leaside still managed to build a 6-1 lead after the top of the 4th.  Our boys needed a wake-up call and needed to start being more aggressive at bat.

That moment came when our coach huddled them together in the dugout and gave them a motivational talk and reinvigorated the team’s energy. The bats came alive and we tied it 6-6 going into the last inning. Our pitchers fought hard in the top of the inning, we kept the bats going, and won the game 8-9 after a bases loaded walk!  What a come back!!!

It was bittersweet losing the next game to our very own NYBA 11U Select Team, but we’re happy that they brought home the TBA Championship by beating Leaside 11U twice the next day!

Our team had a strong finish – going from suffering loses in many of the games early in the season, to qualifying and playing a playoff game at the last tournament, and finishing 3rd at the TBAs! Once again we have proven to ourselves that hard work pays off and that we have a wonderful group of boys who can play very well together, both on and off the diamond.

We have a very special group of kids, parents and coaches working together, making this season, our first season together, unforgettable. What’s more? We celebrated the end of season at a Jay’s game.

North York Baseball Association provides House League and Elite/Rep/Select levels of play for boys and girls 6-18. Games are played at Bond Park in North York. NYBA is celebrating 50 years of serving the community!
